CHARLES WALLACE "CHUCK" PERRY, resident of the Millington Community formerly of Fayette County, U.S. Marine Veteran and husband of Barbara Adair Perry died at 12:37 A.M. Friday, October 9, 2009 at his residence. He was 70 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Perry were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, October 11th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Richard Corum, Pastor of the Millington Church of Christ, officiating. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native of Lamar, Mississippi Mr. Perry was born April 15, 1939 to Thomas J. Perry and Offa Lee Dotson Perry, who both preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Perry were former residents of the Moscow Community and he was educated in the Fayette County Public School System in earlier years and later moved to the Brighton area with his family where he completed his education.

Mr. Perry served for a brief period in the United States Marines and for thirty-five years was employed as a vehicle mechanic.

For fifteen years he served as a Security Officer for the Bryce Corporation before his recent retirement.

He was married April 13, 1974 to the former Barbara Adair of Fayette County, who survives.

Mr. Perry was a member of the Millington Church of Christ and a resident of the Millington area for the past seventeen years.

A talented person with many interests, Mr. Perry enjoyed young people and children, mentoring them by organizing field trips and serving as a father figure to many.

He was a writer of novels and short stories, enjoyed photography and fishing.

In addition to his wife of thirty-five years, Mr. Perry is survived by two daughters, Tammy Gilliam of Millington and Gail Wilson (Dennis) of Brighton, TN; his son, Dwight Byrd of Olive Branch, MS; two sisters, Norma Cooper of Brighton, TN and Delia Atkinson of Goodrich, TX; three brothers: James Perry of Millington; Billy Perry of Dyersburg, TN and John P. Perry of Ahoska, NC and four grandchildren: MacKenzie Richardson (Michael) of Atlanta, GA; Abby Wilson of Memphis; Lottie Byrd of Olive Branch and Kyle Nelson of Votaw, TX.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Essie Perry and Betty Patrick and one brother, Frank Perry.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Joey Perry, Mark Perry, Wade Perry, Brian Cooper, "Porky" Cooper and Dennis Wilson.
